KANANASKIS ELOPEMENT · ALBERTA, CANADA
A relaxed, heartfelt celebration surrounded by mountain scenery, meaningful traditions, and the people who matter most.
For Andrea and Justin, getting married was never about having a big celebration. It was about making a promise to each other in a place they both loved.
They chose the mountains of Kananaskis, Alberta, for an intimate elopement that felt entirely true to who they are. With only their officiant, maid of honour, best man, and a friend capturing memories on a camcorder, their day was beautifully simple.
There was no pressure to follow a traditional wedding timeline. Just the excitement of finally being married and the freedom to experience every moment together.
THE STORY
Andrea and Justin's ceremony took place in a quiet mountain field, surrounded by the natural beauty of Kananaskis.
Getting there was part of the adventure. Andrea made her way down to the ceremony spot, where their closest people were waiting to witness them exchange vows.
Their promises were incredibly personal. Justin spoke about the lessons he'd learned about marriage from their family members and the qualities he hoped to carry into their own relationship.
Andrea's bouquet held a meaningful detail, too: a small locket featuring the initials and anniversary dates of family members whose love stories had helped shape theirs.
It was a beautiful reminder that even the simplest ceremonies can hold so much meaning.
There was something so special about how relaxed Andrea and Justin were throughout their elopement.
They weren't concerned with making everything look perfect. They were simply happy to be together, surrounded by the mountains, and beginning their next chapter as a married couple.
After exchanging their vows, they signed their marriage paperwork on the bed of their truck, a moment that felt just as personal and memorable as the ceremony itself.
Nothing about their day felt overly planned or staged, and that's exactly what made it beautiful.
The mountains created a naturally beautiful backdrop for Andrea and Justin's portraits.
With bright sunshine, open fields, and expansive scenery, we embraced the landscape and the light as they were.
Their portraits were a reflection of the day itself: relaxed, genuine, and focused on their connection rather than perfectly posed moments.
What I loved most about photographing Andrea and Justin was how genuinely excited they were to be married.
They chose to celebrate in a way that felt meaningful to them, without the pressure of a traditional wedding day. Every part of their elopement reflected their personalities, from the mountain setting to the intimate ceremony and the little details honouring their families.
The bright mountain sunshine gave us an opportunity to embrace the natural light and create photographs that felt true to the setting.
Their day was a beautiful reminder that an elopement doesn't need to be elaborate to be unforgettable. Sometimes, the most meaningful celebrations are the simplest ones.
